Currently serving as the Chairman of the Nephrology, Kidney & Urology Institute at Medanta – The Medicity in Gurugram, Dr. Kher oversees the delivery of comprehensive kidney care services and ensures the highest standards of patient care and treatment.

Dr. Vijay Kher’s illustrious career began in the mid-1970s, and since then, he has held several key positions in various healthcare institutions. From 1985 to 1987, he served as the Chief Nephrologist and Head of the Department of Nephrology at Narinder Mohan Hospital & Research Centre. He then moved to SGPGIMS (Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences) where he served as an Additional Professor and Head of the Department of Nephrology from 1987 to 1993. Following this, he held the position of Professor and Chairman of the Department of Nephrology at SGPGIMS from 1993 to 1997, where he made significant contributions to academic nephrology.

In 1997, Dr. Kher joined Indraprastha Apollo Hospital as a Senior Consultant and Coordinator in the Department of Nephrology, where he played a crucial role in establishing the hospital’s nephrology department as a center of excellence. He served there until 2006, during which he contributed immensely to patient care, research, and education in nephrology.

From 2006 to 2009, Dr. Vijay Kher served as the Director of Nephrology and Transplant Medicine at Fortis Healthcare, further solidifying his reputation as a leading expert in the field.

Dr. Kher’s academic achievements are equally impressive. He completed his medical education at Glancy Medical College, Amritsar, graduating with an MBBS degree in 1973. He then pursued postgraduate studies at PGIMER, Chandigarh, where he obtained his MD in Internal Medicine in 1977 and his DM in Nephrology in 1979. He further honed his skills with clinical fellowship training in Nephrology at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, USA, in 1983, and a research fellowship in Hypertension at Henry Ford Hospital, Detroit, USA, in 1981. Additionally, he obtained DNB (Nephrology) certification from the National Boards, India, in 1980.
